The VISION of SCDC is to provide and promote an economically viable dynamic, and livable Scott County and the MISSION is to preserve, protect and enhance both economic and lifestyle opportunities for the countyÆs residents and businesses.

Our Approach ..... Economic development today, doesnÆt resemble the approach to community growth of the past.  SCDC strives to support the financial well-being of existing local business while forging a path for growth that attracts more businesses and families to choose Scott County as their ôhomeö.  Recruitment is a seldom-used tool in the chest.

Certainly, it is wise to encourage new business sectors and embrace competition, but SCDC believes those decisions lie within the private sector and free enterprise system.  That process works.

Another role of economic development, particularly in small communities, is to keep a watchful eye on the ôstrengthö of the major industries that define Scott County û agriculture, livestock, healthcare and recently oil & gas.  SCDC often gathers community leaders and interested citizens to discuss and seek solvency to challenges that impact the vibrant future of Scott City.

Growth creates a synergy that becomes a natural catalyst for success.   Scott City is proactive, yet thoughtful, when assessing opportunities for growth, in a moderate, controlled manner.

SCDC is property manager for Estridge Villas senior housing.

The Scott County Shrine Club was founded with a sense of purpose to aid in the education, care and growth of children in Scott County.  Over the years, this dedication has not changed, but our service area has grown.  With the decline in membership in Greeley, Wichita, Lane and Ness Counties, these clubs have been joined with the Scott County Shrine Club to create a club with a sizable geographic footprint.  Our service area now encompasses all of these five (5) counties and the cities involved.  Although our largest number of members reside in Scott County, we have members in several counties, and our Board of Directors have members from three (3) counties.

The Scott County Shrine Club is a fraternal, philanthropic organization.  To be a Shriner, a person must first be a third degree Mason, and then be accepted into the Shrine fraternity.  The Shrine organization is championed by the 22 Shrine Hospitals internationally.  These hospitals provide free medical care to youth under the age of 18, in areas of orthopedics, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and more.  The advanced care provided is family-centered while focusing on maximizing the child's quality of life, regardless of the families ability to pay.
