Description POSITION TITLE: EMT Full Time  Department: EMS Reports to: EMS Director; CEO Date: September 11, 2015; Revised 4/2018, September 15, 2022 Mission of Department : To ensure prompt high quality patient care and transport to Scott City and surrounding area in a safe and cost effective manner. Purpose of Position: To meet the patient care needs of the program and adhere to appropriate standards of clinical practice, policies and procedures.  Essential Functions: 1. Stabilize, treat, and transport patients requiring medical care according to the scope of      practice and standard of care as defined by the Kansas Board of EMS and the Medical Director.       2. Maintain current EMT certification. 3. Be able to respond to the EMS station within 5 minutes of being paged out. 4. Attend education opportunities provided and monthly meetings as scheduled.   5. Expected to take day call, evening call, and weekend call as needed. 6. Expected to share driver duties with the Director. 7. Expected to take transfers when available day or night. 8. Will take telephone calls if the director is unavailable when able. 9. Will assist with the teaching of the initial EMT courses and CE classes. 10. Time spent at station will be spent on ambulance maintenance and inventory, station upkeep,        and tasks assigned by the Director. 11. Requirements Additional Responsibilities: As directed by EMS Director.  Education, Qualifications, Experience: Current EMS certification. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.    Personal Characteristics: Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful and urgent situations. Must be able to maintain composure and react professionally within difficult emotional, visual and sensory trauma settings. Must remain caring and compassionate to patients and families under difficult circumstances.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and maintain documentation.   Equipment: Must have working knowledge of all equipment pertaining to EMS vehicles and services provided. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 200 pounds and occasionally lift and /or move more than 250 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
